Care Instructions

If well looked after your jewellery will continue to look beautiful for years to come. Following these guidelines can help to ensure this.

Sterling silver will tarnish with time and wear. This can be accelerated by several factors including the natural acidity of the wearers skin, perfume and cosmetic products, chlorine or a humid environment.

Precious metals are still vulnerable to scratches. To help reduce this, jewellery should be removed when doing manual work.

Please note that the matt finish on most of my jewellery is a surface finish and will become shinier with wear. Likewise, polished surfaces will become duller.

All of my jewellery can be carefully cleaned with a soft dry cloth. Stubborn build-up can be removed by a professional jeweller or, alternatively, jewellery can be returned to me to be cleaned and refinished on request. This may incur a small charge. Cleaning instructions for specific collections can be found below.

Silver Cleaning Products
There are many silver cleaning products available. If your jewellery is very tarnished then I recommend using Goddards Silver Foam Polish rather than silver dip. Silver dip can be used on some of my pieces following the manufacturers instructions but in some cases it can do more harm than good. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THE NOTES ABOUT THE USE OF SILVER DIP FOR EACH COLLECTION. If you are unsure which collection your jewellery is from please get in touch with me and I'll be happy to advise.

Lode and Talus Collections
Pieces from these collections can be cleaned with mild washing-up liquid, water and a soft toothbrush. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly in lukewarm water and dry. Lightly tarnished pieces can be cleaned with a small amount of toothpaste on a brush before cleaning with washing up liquid as above. If pieces become very tarnished they can be cleaned with Goddards Silver Foam Polish following the manufacturers instructions. After cleaning, please rinse thoroughly in clean, running water until you are sure all traces of the cleaner have been removed and dry thoroughly. All of the stones can be cleaned with mild washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush then rinsed thoroughly in lukewarm water. Silver dip can be used on these collections following the manufacturers instructions. Please ensure you rinse thoroughly and dry the piece afterwards.

Flint, Ellipse and Pierced Collections
Pieces from these collections are hollow and must not be cleaned using silver dip or submerged in water. They should be cleaned using a soft dry cloth.

Pear Collection
This collection can be cleaned with mild washing-up liquid, water and a soft toothbrush. Please do not use silver dip on this collection.

Storage
Mixing up jewellery results in scratching and damaged chains. Where possible it should be stored in the original packaging or wrapped individually in acid-free tissue paper.

Snake Chains, Cables and Necklets
Care should be taken not to bend snake chains, cables and necklets beyond their natural curve. Their semi-rigid form can make them susceptible to kinking and careful storage is required to preserve their original shape. The manufacturer recommends that they are stored hanging up or carefully coiled and to avoid squashing them in a jewellery box or under heavier items.
